How to Cook Brown Rice in a Rice CookerBecause brown rice is much higher in fiber than white rice, you can't simply follow the “white rice” instructions on the rice cooker or the rice will not come out tough, not tender.
- Rinse and drain 2 cups of brown rice.
- Put it in the rice cooker. Instead of filling the cooker with water to the “2 cup” mark, fill it to the “3 cup” mark in your rice cooker. That usually means 3 cups of water for the 2 cups of brown rice.
- Add a ½ teaspoon of sea salt.
- Turn cooker on.
One of our viewers, Pat Cooks, calculated various amounts for us. 1cup of rice + 1.5cups of water 2 cups of rice + 3cups of water 3 cups of rice + 4.5cups of water (thanks Pat!) Most rice cookers have a non-stick liner where the rice is cooked. Miracle Stainless Steel Rice Cookers have a stainless steel liner (instead of questionable non-stick materials) which I prefer. This brand can be found at The Cookus Store.
Preparation time: 30 minutes Makes ~ 6 cups of rice |

Oh, nevermind, I rewatched the video.
I dont measure my rice like that since I use Jasmine Rice and it measures out the same as Brown.
Gotcha!

Some rice cookers have a brown rice cooking mode so you don't have to make adjustments and constantly monitor it. www.brownricecookersite.com

Thanks for the info! I was just wondering where to get a rice cooker just what I saw in the video. I'm interested to get one because I like things made from stainless steel and not the teflon type. I'm from Canada BC.
Thanks.

I love your site! Have you got any information on germinating brown rice?

Jira,
If you google germinated brown rice there are lots of sites that explain how to do it. Some nutritionists feel that soaking and sprouting grains make them more digestible, more nutritious.
