I’ve been silent on this long enough.  I question the integrity of those who choose creamy peanut over crunchy.  What are we saying to our children when we allow creamy into the house?  That it’s OK to let others chew our food for us.  There’s nothing worse than heading into the cupboard for a PB&J sandwich to find creamy peanut butter only.  I feel the same about jelly over jam.  Seeds are not something to shy away from. J is for Jam, not Jelly.  Just my opinion.

  1. mhhh….not sure, because seedless is kind of deprived but creaminess is just one more step in the process…it’s a matter of taste, like creamy pudding or hard pudding…or orange and orange juice – and no one chewed them just to spit the juice out of them, I am pretty sure.

  2. Call me a shady person than – I happily blitz the bejeebers out of peanuts and cashews when I make my nut butters. If I want crunchy, I’ll eat a handful of nuts. If not – give me smooth creamy dreamy cashew butter every time.

  3. Just had to say that I have always enjoyed creamy over crunchy and I have just learned how to make my own peanut butter, and it is fresh and creamy just the way it should be.

  4. I like crunchy peanut butter, but I also like jelly. Blackberry seeds are too much for me unless I am eating a blackberry.

  5. My best experiences with P,B & J were with Wonder Bread. But that was a long, long time ago. The Hurlehys had 7 kids and after school there was a station set up at their house with countless loaves of bread and 2 gallon bins of peanut butter and jam. Sunny Jim, I think. We could eat as much as we wanted. And my sister worked at the Sunny Jim stand in the Food Circus at The Seattle World’s Fair, selling PB&J’s for a quarter – free to little brothers. I’ve gotten a lot pickier since then. Learned too much, and now I am spoiled. I like it now with freshly sliced thick slices of toasted bread that holds up to firm pressure from a knife. Wheat? Not sour dough.

  6. steve, i’m SO with ya on the crunchy! what are people thinking? smooth is practically a byproduct… and i like jam, altho the blackberry seeds are kinda annoying to me by fall’s arrival. i like it on toasted sprouted seedy wheat bread or as a pancake sandwich. 🙂

  7. I put my hand up for crunchy every time and also forget the ‘salt reduced’ stuff too ! Creamy is like glue getting stuck to the roof of the mouth. Give me a bit of crunch and fibre ! Now being Australian the preferred cupboard, post school treat was always Vegemite (no imposters Promite/Marmite – blergh), butter and fresh white sliced bread from the supermarket. So incredibly bad for us by today’s standards but still so full of memory and deliciousness today.

    As to the jelly/jam debate. Never one for jelly. But the favoured style Down Under is Peanut butter and Honey and that tastes good on anything – bread, crackers, fingers !

  8. Give me some seedy raspberry jam, but pair it with creamy peanut butter! When packing a lunch to be eaten later, spread the peanut butter on both pieces of bread with the jam in the middle. The peanut butter keeps them jam from making the bread soggy! 🙂

  9. So I just started reading this blog and this is the second opinion that I have to agree with.

    I’m starting to really like Steve’s opinions.

    In fact, I’m starting to really like Steve.

    Crunchy over creamy FOREVAH.

    No opinions on jams vs jellies (don’t eat either of them) but does it count if I say that I like my orange juice with pulp? Close enough, right?
